Dr. Dinash Yanamadula is a board-certified physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of neck pain. At the Riverview Pain & Spine Institute, the doctor and his staff serve the residents of Edgewater and many other New Jersey neighborhoods.
The neck must support the head (which weighs an average of 12 pounds), and enable it to move in nearly every direction. Those are big jobs for this thin set of vertebrae, discs, and soft tissue that the neck is composed of. The neck is also referred to as the cervical spine. Between the neck’s weight-bearing and mobility functions, the neck is immensely susceptible to pain and injury. Given that the neck is such a delicate and complex structure, even strong head movements can lead to injury and pain in the neck. Other common causes include:
The foramina, or small holes that the nerves from the spine travel through, are located on all of the vertebrae, including the cervical ones. Stenosis can occur anywhere along the spine, causing similar symptoms throughout the body. The nerves that travel through the cervical portion of the spine are associated with the arms, hands, and fingers. When stenosis occurs in these vertebrae, the numbness and tingling can radiate down the arm and into the fingers.
Dr. Yanamadula is very experienced and his practice is equipped to administer the widest available range of non-surgical options for relieving neck pain. After a complete examination and diagnosis of the source of pain, he will create an individualized plan. Some of the potential options that may be used include:
